Jorge Rodriguez Gerada was born in Santa Clara, Cuba on February 5, 1966. His family immigrated to the US in 1970 and relocated to New Jersey. While in college, he became more aware of the power of art and its ability to impact the community. During this period he became a founding member of the group Artfux. The group was active from mid 1989 to mid 1992. After the rupture of Artfux in 1992, Rodriguez Gerada continued working with the Artfux splinter group Cicada Corps of Artists. Cicada Corps was an entity made up of autonomous artists who would collaborate. During these years he altered countless billboards, was part of numerous exhibitions and undertook guerrilla performances that called the attention of the media for their audacity. All of these activities were focused in and around the New York City area.

"Citizen Art", a documentary produced by Harvest Moon Productions is based on the history and growth of Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada as an artist, culture jammer and critical thinker. It touches upon his involvement with Cicada Corps and the community. This documentary aired on PBS throughout the country, on BBC in England and on RAI TV in Italy. It was also shown in numerous galleries including Exit Art, in NYC.

In May 1997, Rodriguez-Gerada was interviewed by Naomi Klein for the Village Voice. The name of the article was "Subvertising". This article was later incorporated in Klein’s book “No Logo”.

Rodriguez-Gerada now lives between New York City and Barcelona, Spain. Years of process have led him to the Identity Series. In 2002 these large charcoal images started to appear in Barcelona, Spain. They have now been created in many different cities throughout the world.

Numerous articles, radio interviews and TV programs have featured his work. Jorge Rodriguez-Gerada produces artwork that blends into the urban environment by incorporationg accepted codes that channel observers in unexpected directions.
