¨Composite Identity¨is a large scale charcoal portrait (8x5 meters) based on a 3D face created by scanning 100 faces from the campus community of the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona. Cultura en Viu (Culture Live - which is the office of cultural promotion of the university) as well as l’Escola Técnica Superior d’Enginyeria Informática (Superior Technical School of Computational Engineering) and the Centre de Visió per Computador (Center of Computer Vision) of the UAB were given the task of creating a low cost system of 3D scanning with high quality, as well as creating a specific software to combine these scanned faces. “Metamorphosis” combines the 3D files of the faces by using 28 points that are assigned to each face.

Each person was scanned and photographed three times (front and both sides). Scanned participants were volunteers who followed a statistic criteria that was proportional to the total amount of members of the University: 84 students, 6 members of Administration and Services and 10 Professors and Researchers. The resulting image is a symbol of the totality of people that make up the University’s Identity. This project is the fruit of the grant “Creador en residència a la UAB” an open call directed to emergent that involve the student body and research facilities within the University. With this research, Rodriguez-Gerada plans to expand the possibilities for future projects.

The artist wishes to thank Enric Martí y Ferran Poveda.
